Good To Know
Looking for a slice of underwater paradise? Say hello to Praia do Garajau – one of Madeira’s secret gems, tucked inside a marine reserve and perfect for diving fanatics. Located in the Garajau Partial Natural Reserve (fancy name, fabulous fish), this beach has been protected since 1986 to keep marine life thriving and underwater deserts away. Fishing? Nope. Unregulated boats? Also nope.
But diving? Oh yes. With calm, crystal-clear waters, it’s a hotspot for spotting ocean giants like groupers (Epinephelus guaza) and majestic manta rays (Mobula birostris). Want to get there in style? Hop on the cable car and glide down to beach bliss. Once you land, you’ll find showers, bathrooms, first aid, and even a seaside restaurant where you can refuel with Atlantic views on the side.
Garajau Beach – where the only thing deeper than the ocean is your love for diving.
Also close by is the Jesus Statue and The Viewpoint Cristo Rei.
