Good To Know
Perched like a chill king above downtown Funchal, the Miradouro da Quinta das Cruzes is where old-school charm meets jaw-dropping panoramas. Officially opened in 1936 (yes, it’s vintage!), it’s one of the oldest viewpoints in the city—and boy, does it deliver.
This scenic gem sits inside the historic Quinta das Cruzes, once home to João Gonçalves Zarco, the guy who literally discovered Madeira. Big explorer energy right there.
Located in the São Pedro parish, where the rich and fabulous started building their hillside mansions back in the 15th century, this spot is your go-to for majestic vibes without the tourist stampede. From 57 meters up, you get killer views over Funchal’s downtown and out to the sparkling Atlantic.
But wait, there's flora too! Think towering centennial trees, stone-paved paths, and a whole garden party of exotic and endemic plants—yes, even orchids. Nature, history, and views? That's the holy trinity of chill. Most of it though is found inside the Garden of Quinta das Cruzes
