Good To Know
Welcome to the Museum "A Cidade do Açúcar"! It's like stepping into a time machine back to Funchal's sweet past. Picture this: back in 1996, a little museum popped up to honor an old Manueline house wrecked by a dude named João Esmeraldo in the 19th century. Fun fact: Christopher Columbus once chilled there!
Originally, it was all about helping Funchal connect with its roots through cool exhibits and guides. Think of it as a puzzle piece in the big picture—a museum of the city, if you will. Fast forward to today, and "A Cidade do Açúcar" is all about digging into Funchal's past, quite literally!
Archaeological finds from 1989, where João Esmeraldo's old digs were, give us a peek into daily life from the 15th to the 17th century. It's like snooping through a time capsule, but without breaking any ancient pottery! So, come join us for a sweet journey through Funchal's history at "A Cidade do Açúcar" Museum!
